This young goalie needed a new mask that was less about where he played, and more about the fear he inspired in any shooter who dared to face him! Being based near Halifax, Nova Scotia, we settled on the legend of the Phantom Ship of nearby Mahone Bay, the Young Teazer.
The ship was nearly captured during the War of 1812, but rather than surrender, the story goes that the crew set off the gunpowder on board, sending the boat and her crew to a fiery end. And ever since, locals and sailors in the area have reported seeing the “Teazer Light”, a red spectral glow that comes in on the fog.
Added to the design is a smoky, misty goalie mask on top, with more of the Teazer Light’s flames flickering through.
One change came late in the design – originally, we were going with a zombie face peering off the backplate, watching like a second set of eyes, but instead, we went with more flames and mist, to better match the rest of the mask.
